Understanding the practice

Distance Reiki, explained

Everything you might be wondering about how healing can reach you from afar — and why so many find it just as powerful.

First things first

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle Japanese practice for relaxation and wellbeing. The word combines rei — universal — and ki — life energy: the subtle vitality that flows through all living things.

When that energy feels depleted or blocked — by stress, exhaustion or emotional strain — we can feel run down, anxious or simply not ourselves. A Reiki practitioner acts as a gentle channel, encouraging that energy to flow freely again so your body can settle into its own natural balance and rest.

There's nothing to believe or do. You simply relax and receive.

The question everyone asks

How can it possibly work from a distance?

It's the most natural thing to wonder. Here's the simple idea behind it.

Reiki works with energy, and energy isn't confined to one spot. Think of how a phone call, a radio broadcast or a wifi signal travels invisibly between two points — you can't see the connection, yet it's very real. Distance Reiki works on a similar principle: with focused intention, healing energy can be directed to you wherever you happen to be.

Practitioners have worked this way for generations, using a long-honoured technique that allows a clear, respectful connection to be made across any distance. Caroline tunes in to your energy at your agreed appointment time, with your name and your consent, and channels Reiki to you exactly as she would if you were lying on the couch in front of her.

Crucially, you don't need to "do" anything or believe anything for it to work. You only need to be willing to relax and receive. Many clients are surprised by how tangible it feels — warmth, tingling, a deep heaviness or a floating calm — and by how rested they feel afterwards.

What to expect

Your session, from start to finish

A gentle check-in

We'll connect briefly beforehand so you can share what's going on and what you'd love to feel more of. Everything is confidential.

You get comfortable

At the agreed time, lie down somewhere warm and undisturbed, fully clothed. A blanket, soft music and a silenced phone all help you drop in.

Caroline connects

She tunes in and channels Reiki to you throughout the session. You simply rest — there's nothing to concentrate on or get right.

You return gently

As the session closes, you ease back in your own time. A glass of water and a few quiet minutes are lovely here.

Your written notes

Afterwards you'll receive warm, intuitive feedback on what came through, with simple aftercare to help the calm settle in.

How it might feel

Everyone experiences it differently

There's no "right" way to feel. These are simply some of the things clients often notice.

Warmth

A comforting heat or gentle glow moving through the body.

Tingling

Soft pulsing or fluttering sensations, often in the hands or chest.

Deep calm

A heavy, sink-into-the-bed relaxation — many drift off entirely.

Release

A quiet emotional softening, sometimes a wave of relief or tears.

And if you feel very little during the session itself? That's perfectly normal too — the benefits often unfold over the hours and days that follow.

Who it's for

Distance Reiki is wonderful if…

  • You feel stressed, anxious, wired or burnt out and crave some calm.
  • You're not sleeping well and your mind won't switch off.
  • You'd rather relax at home than travel to an appointment.
  • Mobility, distance or a busy schedule make in-person tricky.
  • You're moving through grief, illness or a big life change.
  • You simply want to feel more grounded, balanced and well.
